A Decent Arrangement is a commentary on the perils faced by NRI’s going into an arranged marriage. It’s a charming, witty and quite a realistic take on an issue that escapes most people, sometimes even those involved in it. It also brings to front the one dimensional career choices made available to Indian kids by their parents. The concept of arranged marriage is also given a looksie, with a few light hearted jabs being made here and there about Indian culture.

Ashok is an aimless NRI copywriter, who’s travelling to India for an arranged marriage. In his travels, he happens across an american girl (How ironic), who makes him question his decision to get hitched in this fashion. Coupled with his overbearing sister (Shabana Azmi), this seemed like a typical case of getting cold feet, except for the introduction of Diksha Basu, who manages to captivate Ashok, giving him a conundrum to find his way out of.

A Decent Arrangement is quite an entertaining film, with some great acting, and gives off a very sincere vibe. However, being a commentary of sorts, it does fall victim to being overly preachy at times. This doesn’t detract too much from the overall experience, making it worth a watch.
